While Ronaldo is undoubtedly a great player, he does not have the pace he used to.

Cristiano Ronaldo said Portugal must be realistic as they are not among the World Cup favourites, though the Real Madrid superstar urged his team-mates to "think big" and insisted nothing is impossible.

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid this summer and his decision is "irreversible", according to reports in Portugal.

Ronaldo, 33, sparked speculation about his future by speaking in the past tense when discussing his time as a Madrid player after last month's Champions League final victory over Liverpool in Kiev.

Bale has constantly been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks.

It broke in Portugal this morning that Ronaldo has chose to call time on his career at Real.

The report goes on to state that the next step in the process if for Neymar to inform the Paris outfit of his desire to leave France in order to begin negotiations - and Real feel confident enough to strike a deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

They've done it for six or seven seasons and he's just done it in one.

Roncero explained that Real now pay Ronaldo €21 million (£18 million) per year, while Neymar earns €37 million (£32 million) per season at PSG.

His statement was not well received by his captain Sergio Ramos who was angry at the Portuguese star for making the announcement at the wrong time.

Zinedine Zidane's shock departure as Blancos coach could have an impact on whether Bale stays in the Spanish capital, but United are still understood to view the Wales worldwide as their main transfer target.
