Apol, the acting director of the Office of Government Ethics, sent Rosenstein a copy of Trump's current and previous financial form, noting in his letter that "you may find the disclosure relevant to any inquiry you may be pursuing regarding the President's prior report that was signed on June 14, 2017".

The single line, included at the bottom of a page in the middle of the latest financial report, helps explain why Trump legal team member Rudy Giuliani publicly acknowledged the payment for the first time earlier this month, during a Fox News interview.

Trump's representatives said in the document that revealing the payments made to Cohen was not necessary by law, instead saying they were listing them "in the interest of transparency".

Trump's financial disclosure, released by the Office of Government Ethics, did not specify the goal of the payment. Check back for updates. The value of the payment ranged from $100,001 to $250,000.

Even still, Cohen contacted high ranking Russian-contact Dmitry Peskov asking for "assistance" in closing the Trump Tower deal.
