He's been named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team three years in a row, from 2015-2017.

As a finalist for the 2018 NBA Defensive MVP, Embiid, who averaged 11 rebounds and a 3.6 Real Plus-Minus rating will be facing off against fellow defensive anchors Rudy Gobert (5.15) and Anthony Davis (3.8) for the title best defender in the league.

The final three are James harden of the Houston Rockets, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 28-year-old star was also third in the league in assists (8.8) and seventh in steals (1.75).

The finalists in all categories were determined by voting by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Harden may end up winning the award, but this is as worthy of an MVP field as we've seen in recent memory. Davis lead the Pelicans to the second round of the Western Conference playoffs. Harden and James are now playing in their conference finals.

The Rockets' Eric Gordon - the reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year - was again named a finalist for the award.

After plenty of off-court chat, Donovan Mitchell and Ben Simmons will continue their battle for rookie of the year, while Jayson Tatum is also a finalist.

The NBA regular season ended over a month ago, and we still have over a month until the league's postseason awards will be handed out at the 2018 NBA Awards show on June 25. Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet is the other finalist.
