"Brazil is one of the favorites given the football it has shown, given its consistency", Tite said at the team announcement in Rio de Janeiro.

"We will be a good deal stronger with Neymar".

Manchester City quartet Ederson, Danilo, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus are among the Premier League-based players named in the squad.

"I'm giving these details to you a little bit before Tite, but only to tell you that he'll be working to get back all conditions and of playing with the group".

Under new manager Tite, Brazil became the first nation to qualify after running riot in the notoriously hard South American qualifiers.

"At first, Gabriel Jesus is our starter. We have to concentrate on preparing", Tite said.

Likewise, Brazil's coaching staff is mulling over whether to use Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho on the left or in a central midfield role. Tite said he needs "a pacemaker" in the team, which he has not received from Beijing Guoan's Renato Augusto. "Sometimes preparation gives you elements that you didn't have, and force you to change your mind".

The coach's final list includes 15 out of the 23 players he called for his first game with Brazil, against Ecuador in World Cup qualifiers in September 2016.

World Cup winners in 1978 and 1986, the South Americans have not won a major worldwide title since lifting the Copa America in 1993 and have performed inconsistently since losing to Germany in the final four years ago. Thiago Silva and Neymar did not play that semifinal, one due to suspension and the other because of injury.

Tite may be forgiven for having one eye on the Champions League final in Kiev between Liverpool and Real Madrid as three of his key men all feature: Firmino for Liverpool and Marcelo and Casemiro for Real Madrid.

They are in Group E of the World Cup alongside Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia and kick off their campaign on June 17, against the Swiss.
