If he says Ohtani is "probably the best player in the world", we're just going to let that speak for itself. Joe Mauer drove in the Minnesota run with a pinch-hit sixth inning single. Middleton only returned from the disabled list last Thursday after sitting out with elbow inflammation. Bridwell made one start this season, giving up six runs in 1 2/3 innings against Oakland on April 6.

Saturday: Went 0 for 2 with four walks and a stolen base in a 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins in 12 innings.

Minnesota Twins reliever Trevor Hildenberger and catcher Mitch Garver were trying to figure out how to handle Albert Pujols' at-bat with Mike Trout in scoring position in the bottom of the 11th inning, only to realize that manager Paul Molitor had already intentionally walked the Los Angeles Angels' slugger. The 24-16 Angels are one game back from the AL West leading Astros.

Romero's career-opening scoreless streak ended at 15 2/3 innings when Upton beat out a potential double-play grounder in the fifth, but he struck out six while walking three. He had 7 strike outs by the end of the third inning. Kole Calhoun walked and reached second on a wild pitch. With his fastball hitting 99 miles per hour and his off-speed pitches plummeting through the strike zone, the Japanese right-hander reached 43 strikeouts for the season, blowing past Bo Belinsky's franchise record for strikeouts in a pitcher's first six games.

He averages more than a strikeout per inning (32 in 26⅓). That was the only one of Ohtani's five major league starts where he has not made it into the sixth inning. He's been excellent at the plate thus far, hitting.348/.392/.652 - with five home runs - over 74 plate appearances.
