This is why it's not surprising that del Toro's next project is a horror anthology that Netflix has announced that they have just picked up.
Guillermo del Toro is bringing a new horror anthology series to Netflix!
Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight will see the Oscar-winning writer and director curating a number of sophisticated but horrific stories.
Del Toro will write and direct certain episodes, according to a Netflix press release, and the rest of the episodes will be helmed by filmmakers of Del Toro's choosing. Called "Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight", the show is now set to release "soon" according to Netflix's announcement this morning. "The Shape of Water" producer J. Miles Dale and Gary Ungar of Exile Entertainment are set to join del Toro as an executive producer on the project.
Netflix is continuing its successful collaboration with Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. That show will return for its third and final season May 25. Coming off a pair of Academy Award wins for The Shape of Water, including Best Picture, the Mexican-born talent clearly isn't interested in spending any time away from the world of storytelling. The framework of a horror anthology series is low risk, high reward format.
10 After Midnight will be Netflix's first original horror anthology series (Black Mirror began on British Channel 4 before heading to Netflix for seasons three through five).
No word on an official release date or episode descriptions yet but hopefully one episode will take place in del Toro's home.
This sounds like the flawless format for del Toro, who has always tried to use his name to help other burgeoning talents whether it was J.A. Bayona on The Orphanage or Andres Muschietti on Mama.
