World Cup-winning goalscorer Mario Gotze has been left out of Germany's squad for June's tournament in Russian Federation. Neuer hasn't played since September because of a hairline fracture in his left foot. We will be open and honest after the training camp, and without match practice, you can't go into a tournament.

An enviable array of attacking options is enhanced by Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus, whose extensive catalogue of fitness problems served to rule him out of both Euro 2016 and the previous World Cup.

There is no place in Loew's squad for Goetze, who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup finals, after an erratic season at Borussia Dortmund.

Loew opted for Petersen over Bayern Munich forward Sandro Wagner, giving the 29-year-old Freiburg player his first call-up to the national team after an excellent season.

Ozil is in the squad despite suffering from a back injury while Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has also been called up even though he is now sidelined by a groin injury.

Head Coach Joachim Low has included several heroes from 2014 in Brazil, including Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller, and injury doubt Manuel Neuer.

Germany open their Russian Federation 2018 campaign against Mexico in Moscow on June 17, the defending champions also facing South Korea and Sweden in Group F.
