The Daily Record say that Rangers are planning a clearout of nine players, with Windass set to be one of the players axed, as Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard stamps his authority as new manager of the club.

Gerrard was appointed Rangers manager on a four-year deal last week and will begin work on June 1. "It's up to the new manager to decide how many he is short of doing that".

Maclaren scored two more goals to complete a hat-trick and ensure Rangers finished three points behind Aberdeen, who beat champions Celtic 1-0 in Glasgow. The first fifteen minutes was good and then we lost our way a wee bit before picking it up again in the second-half.

However, with Hibs fans swarming out of the ground, Rangers started to implode, letting a goal in, seeing Jason Holt get sent off and then letting in an equaliser in injury time.

"The players probably haven't produced what they're capable of consistently". He might get it out of them.

But Merson believes a Wayne Rooney Rangers move could suit the former England captain, he said: 'It'd be great for Scottish football - if it was me, I'd go to Rangers'.

Paddy Power have cut Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe from 7/1 to just 12/5 to make a summer move to Rangers, having endured a frustrating season on the South Coast.

Nicholl, a former Manchester United defender, was one of the big names lured to Glasgow by Souness, with the likes of Terry Butcher and Chris Woods also arriving to spark a dramatic upturn in fortunes.

"That tells you there was enough in the club at that moment to turn things around, added with these three or four".

35 years ago I was playing in front of 12,000 of them, and now, there is 50,000 there all the time and they are behind the lads until they don't produce, and if they don't produce, they are right to get on to you.
