Andrew McCutchen #22 of the San Francisco Giants hits a walk-off three-run homer to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-5 in the bottom of the 14th inning at AT&T Park on April 7, 2018 in San Francisco, California. Pittsburgh starter Trevor Williams gave up four runs over five frames for a ND with Richard Rodriguez allowing an 8th inning run yet still picking up the win.

"I'm humbled by it and I appreciate it", McCutchen said.

At the beginning of Jackson's at-bat, Pittsburgh's scoreboard flashed a graphic featuring a spray chart of the center fielder's balls in play this season.

"It's starting pitching", manager Bruce Bochy said. "They're looking for the ball up over the plate".

Crick worked around a leadoff single and pitched a scoreless fifth while Kontos retired McCutchen with the bases loaded in the eighth to preserve the Pirates' six-run lead and take any remaining intrigue out of the game. Even with the offense, the winning run in Saturday's 6-5 win came when Jordy Mercer got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth.

On Friday night, Andrew McCutchen returned to Pittsburgh for the first time since he was traded over the winter from the Pirates to the Giants.

Nova (2-3) gave up four runs and eight hits in 5⅔ innings and is 0-2 in five starts since beating Miami on April 15.

Props to the Pirates for showing appreciation for the 31-year-old. He doesn't have a win in his past 12 road starts, with his last win coming last May 21 against Seattle.

Despite the ominous start, the Giants forced their way back into the game in the top of the second when Longoria slammed the first pitch of the inning over the left field wall.

After Holland exited, Moronta, lefty Will Smith and closer Hunter Strickland finished the game off as the Giants captured their fourth shutout win of the season. The three-run blast was the fifth hit by the Giants this season after the club hit just seven all of past year.

This will be his ninth start but just his third at home. Hanson left the game after scoring because of an unspecified injury he apparently suffered running the bases.

Pirates fans started the game on the their feet, and ended it there too as the club spoiled McCutchen's return to PNC Park by downing the Giants 11-2. "Part of me needs to be positive in this game but we'll keep that to myself and it is what it is". The Giants have now lost six straight on the road, but they will return home on Monday. In the end, Watson couldn't pitch around Bell's double and Freese's tough-luck grounder in the eighth as the Giants fell two games under.500.
