UFC 224 The fouth fight/ co main event on the UFC 224 main card Kelvin Gastelum vs. "Jacare" Souza just finished up and we saw a great fight where Kelvin Gastelum just showed physical stamina over Jacare Souza. Souza pressed forward and managed to take Gastelum down a couple of times in the last round.
Gastelum stuffed a takedown early in the final frame.
In round two Gastelum would find his range and proceeded to drop Souza with a punch. "Just when I look at the big picture, that's what I see". Souza and Gastelum hoped to set themselves up in prime position to earn a middleweight title shot.
For his next fight, Gastelum said in his post-fight interview that he believes a fight with the victor of Whittaker and Romero 2 is next for him. Jacare is fishing for an arm-triangle, and eventually goes for an armbar. Souza threw Gastelum down, but couldn't hold him.
Jacare on looking for a win and not caring how he wins: "It's all about a win". Jacare lands a massive right hand. Both fighters did a lot of good work with power shots but neither landed anything solid enough to finish the fight. But, he wasn't able to keep the fight there and Gastelum also planted punches of his own. Gastelum then started to back Jacare up throwing his counter 1-2. Still, Jacare was looking hurt and exhausted. It was well timed, but he's practically running on empty here. It was a much-needed victory for Gastelum, who was coming off a submission loss to Chris Weidman.
With the champion dealing with another fight, Souza and Gastelum fought for three, five-minute rounds that crowned a new title challenger at middleweight.
Souza was nearly able to end the fight with an armbar in round one, but Gastelum managed to survive the submission attempt.
