ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday that the city had "emerged as the leading contender to host the 2019 National Football League draft". A decision is expected to be announced during the league's spring meeting May 22-23 in Atlanta.
In February, the city was notified that Nashville is a finalist to host either the 2019 or 2020 draft. Denver, Las Vegas, Cleveland/Canton and Kansas City are the others in the mix to host one of the next two drafts. Those kind of numbers would be huge for the city of Denver. Imagine the crowd if the NFL Draft does, in fact, come to Music City.
The draft used to be held every year in New York City, however the league has since opted to move it around. However, the report didn't specify if the draft would be held at Nissan Stadium, the Titans' home.
"The draft really has evolved, and it's because of the passion and the interest in it", Goodell told the media following the Browns Fan Forum last August. The announcement will be made at the NFL Spring meeting May 21-23 in Atlanta, likely for both years.NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email response, "we do not have a comment on speculation".
"Cleveland, obviously, and Northeast Ohio, Canton, Ohio, it's the birthplace of football, and I believe that the passion here would be extraordinary, so I think it would be a great event".
