Sony Pictures has been trying to get a third installment of the Bad Boys franchise off the ground for almost a decade.

The Bad Boys threequel, reuniting Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, has a release date.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing the film, which will see Smith and Lawrence getting in the shoes of Miami Narcotics Detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey respectively.

After year's of limbo, it's finally been announced that Bad Boys 3 will be released in 2020. In a film that originally was slated to star Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey, Lawrence and Smith put a new spin on the buddy-cop action genre. That one has been slated for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend on January 17, 2020. Both the films, which collectively made over Dollars 414 million at the global box office, were directed by Michael Bay.

After experiencing some hiccups, Sony's long-gestating "Bad Boys For Life" - the second sequel to '90s action-comedy "Bad Boys" - has found itself back on Sony's release schedule.

According to reports, she's set to star in a TV spin-off series of Bad Boys, returning as Sydney Burnett which she played in the second installment of the film franchise. The project was constantly pushed back due to "scheduling conflicts" and Sony pulled the project from its schedule previous year.

To be directed by Marielle Heller from a script by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, the film will veteran actor Tom Hanks portraying the role of Rogers.
