Former head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Richard Cordray won the Democratic nomination for governor.

The Senate GOP is hoping to defend a 51-49 majority during 2018 midterm elections. Joe Donnelly of IN won renomination uncontested, and Sen.

The results capped a dramatic final week in which Trump used his Twitter bully pulpit to persuade voters not to pick Blankenship and throw away a shot at a winnable race. Several of them are shaping up as ideological battles that echo the 2016 Democratic presidential primary between Hillary Clinton and Sen.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito did not endorse a candidate during the just-concluded primary campaign. Their governorship recently flipped from Democrat to Republican.

The Senate races in West Virginia, Indiana and OH may be pivotal in determining whether Republicans hang on to their 51-49 majority in the chamber.

Gubernatorial candidates Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam and Ed Gillespie shake hands before a debate in Washington on September 19. Jenkins joined the Republican Party in 2013 prior to running for the 3rd Congressional District seat. Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Pepper claimed such momentum Wednesday morning, despite the Republican advantage in the number of ballots.

The last two polls of the race that weren't sponsored by either candidate (one of which was conducted for Fox News and one by the Republican GOPAC by National Research) had Morrisey and Evan Jenkins neck and neck with Blankenship in third, though close enough to potentially win given the past predictiveness of primary polling.

Morrisey, a two-term state attorney general, defeated a congressman and a former coal company executive with deep pockets in the Republican primary Tuesday to earn the chance to challenge Manchin. A pro-Trump political action committee America First was airing ads promoting Gina Haspel, Trump's nominee to be Central Intelligence Agency director, and urging residents to call Manchin to support her confirmation. The drug company sued West Virginia in 2015 to keep a "preferred" status in the state's Medicaid offerings, a case Morrisey's office defended. Morrisey's career as a Washington lobbyist, in an opioid-ravaged state, might neutralize Manchin's biggest weakness, his own family's ties to the pharmaceutical industry. Maybe they wanted to scare voters into turning out for their candidate who was not Blankenship. Dick Durbin of IL, the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate.

Manchin is a conservative-leaning Democrat, which has worked well for him in the past, but it seems that the state is trending more Republican. "Even though the odds of beating three felonies are at least 150 to 1, I did beat all three that were levied against me" he said.
