Is the ambitious Avengers: Infinity War cinematic brilliance or just all hype?

One of the most anticipating scenes, especially for Marvel's Black Panther super-fans, is the return of Wakanda in the Avengers: Infinity War.

I guess it's one more reason to catch the film one, two...even four times more.

And so, each superhero team will do whatever it takes to bring down Thanos, irrespective of the sacrifice it might cost them. And, as the ending of Avengers: Infinity War shows, he does just that.

That's not to say the film's epic scale is a detriment to the cinematic experience. They stretched the length to two hours and twenty-nine minutes to do justice to all the characters. Loki dies trying to outsmart Thanos.

"But there are shadings of what Taika was doing in Ragnarok with the character". He has the most screen time and boy, what a fight he puts up against the Mad Titan. Loki could have surrendered the Tesseract as if he was fulfilling Thanos' initial command.

Half of Asgard's refugees were also killed in the opening scene of the film. Given that most audiences seeing this film have seen most, if not all the films in the MCU, the lack of character development within these pre-established heroes is forgivable given Thanos' unique arc.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will be released in 2020.

The Infinity Stones, originally referred to in the comics as Soul Gems, grant their possessor omnipotence and omniscience. Only then did Gamora give up the stone's location.

It's been three years since we last saw the Avengers suit up together (2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron). However, what Thanos lacks in integrity and sheer will, he makes up for with enormous power and strength. It made this the most emotional, heart-breaking ride of anything on this side of the universe, and it will shake up the future, starting with Avengers 4 and spilling into the mysterious Phase Four that finally had something answered. And we'll have another coming out next month with Deadpool 2. The film's script manages to get the usual levity, with Star Lord, Tony Stark, and Dr Strange all delivering humour in spades. He destroys everything that comes in his path.

That's right, Scarlet Witch killed the man she loved to save the universe.

And in an ongoing BU Today tradition, we are marking the film's release with a trivia contest. After Scarlet Witch killed Vision, Thanos used the Time Stone to reverse time so he could go back in time and rip the stone out Vision's head and then he died again. It's focusing on a story, and focusing on the individual movie that we're making to do what's best. But as you go along, you realise that this film has a distinct place of its own in Marvel history. His interactions with Thor, Iron Man, Rocket and Drax can only be defined as a treat to watch.

It ends on a shocking cliffhanger, and the post-credits don't seem to provide answers either. Now they get to see all of them together in one film. Nebula is also still out there, as are Hawkeye and Ant-Man.

It really is a very amusing film. You lack out of words when you witness a magnificent movie like Infinity War, and that's what is happening with us. It's the emotion behind those punches that will surprise you. Let us know on social or in the community pages.
