Shashi Singh allegedly took the victim to Sengar on the day of the crime.

On Monday the CBI sleuths brought the victim and her mother from Unnao and later she recorded a fresh statement before the magistrate under section 164 of the CrPC.

"We have doubts over the investigation and there are reasons for it. He has been sent to 7-day CBI custody", said Sengar's lawyer.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested two persons who allegedly tried to bribe a Customs officer in Mumbai in a bid to recover seized goods worth crores. A senior CBI official said the MLA for Bangarmau in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district was taken from a house in Lucknow's Indira Nagar area to the agency's office in Hazratganj around 4am.

"The disturbing feature of the case is that the law and order machinery and the government officials were directly in league and under the influence of Kuldeep Singh", a bench of Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice Sunit Kumar said on Friday.

Neglecting the set guidelines for handling such offences, Unnao cops took no pains to collect samples from girl's private parts or clothes she was wearing during the incident to be forwarded to forensic laboratory for DNA or biological examination to corroborate her claims. The father of the victim later died in judicial custody.

The Supreme Court today did not favour handing over the investigation into the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua from the crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police to the CBI as her father expressed satisfaction over the investigation carried out so far. According to reports, the CBI has arrested the key suspect in the case.

The CBI has registered a case on a complaint from an Assistant Commissioner, Customs (Marine and Preventive) in Mumbai regarding the bribe offered.

Later, UP CM Yogi Adityanath assured of strict action on criminals, no matter how influential they are.
