Before dawn on Saturday, a coalition of US, United Kingdom and French forces launched more than 100 missiles targeting three chemical facilities in Syria in retaliation for an apparent chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians on April 7. I support President Trump's limited action to target chemical weapons facilities and hold this brutal regime accountable. There will be more.

Sanders and Haley both said the administration has three goals: to defeat the Islamic State terrorist organization; to contain Iran; and to stop the spread and use of chemical weapons.

The United States, France and the United Kingdom pounded Syria with air strikes and Trump said he was prepared to sustain the response until Assad's government stopped its use of chemical weapons.

"With our allies, we ensured that the Russians were warned ahead of time", said French Defense Minister Florence Parly. "We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences".

"Clearly the Assad regime did not get the message previous year".

The U.S. -led strikes did nothing to alter the strategic balance or dent Assad's supremacy and the Western allies have said the aim was to prevent the further use of chemical weapons, not to intervene in the civil war or topple Assad.

In an interview published Sunday in the Journal du Dimanche newspaper, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian reached out to Russian Federation, saying "we should join our efforts to promote a political process in Syria that would allow a way out of the crisis".

On a Sunday TV program, he said Western leaders have no plans for additional attacks, but that could change if there are new chemical attacks.

The United Nations Security Council rejected a Russian resolution that would condemn "aggression" by the USA and its allies against Syria on Saturday. -Russian relations are at a low point.

In contrast, eight nations voted against Russian Federation - the U.S., Britain, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Kuwait, Poland and Ivory Coast.

Inspectors from the global chemical weapons watchdog met Syrian officials in Damascus on Monday but have so far been denied access to the former rebel stronghold where the alleged use of toxic substances provoked a USA -led strike.

The Pentagon says none of the missiles were shot down. The second and third targets were in the city of Homs at Him Shinshar chemical weapons complex.

The action was in response to a recent deadly attack in the town of Douma.

Several hundred KKE supporters joined a march to the US Embassy, a couple of miles from the statue, in the third demonstration in Athens against Saturday's air strikes.

"We are still conducting a more detailed damage assessment, but initial indications are that we accomplished our military objectives without material interference".
