Talking about the resignation of the two BJP ministers - Lal Singh and C P Ganga - he said people would have welcomed them had they resigned immediately after their assurance of CBI probe was rejected by the chief minister.

Singh and Ganga who were holding the portfolios of forests and industries and commerce in the Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government, respectively had submitted their resignation letters to the BJP's J&K unit president Sat Paul Sharma on Friday amid growing criticism over their publicly siding with the accused.

Ms Mufti's People's Democratic Party and the BJP had nearly reached a breaking point after the two BJP leaders participated in a rally on March 1 to protest against the Crime Branch. During the investigation, the crime branch alleged she was drugged and repeatedly raped before being killed by crushing her head with stones. To a question that the two ministers had participated in the rally in support of the accused in the rape case where the national tricolour was being waved, Madhav said, "That is why they had to resign. It was sheer indiscretion on their part", he said.

She told a Press conference that if the Modi government were so committed towards Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, it would not have finished the SC-ST sub-plan introduced in the Budget during Indira Gandhi era. Madhav was present in the meeting in which all BJP lawmakers and other party functionaries were present to take a final call on the future course of the party with its alliance partner PDP.

"Naari Virodhi (anti-woman) Adityanath has not only utterly failed in his constitutional duties as the Chief Minister and abused the oath of office but also played an important protagonist in safeguarding the interests of the rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar", he added. Both the ministers had maintained yesterday that they had been sent by the party to Kathua to understand the ground situation. "The police officer is naming BJP leaders and asking a criminal to manage them". A week later, her body was found in woods near her village. Madhav accused the Congress party of playing double standards.

She also claimed that her family was being threatened after they tried to file an FIR.

She was produced in local CBI court in the evening today.
