Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing throughout the right-side of the split-level, wood-frame house.

Nashville Fire Department crews responded to a house fire on Leawood Drive.

The fire started in the basement, Doyle said.

The dogs' human companions got out unhurt but the canines were rescued by firefighters, according to Windsor Fire and Rescue.

Authorities said a man who lived there jumped out of the window to escape. No injuries have been reported.

According to officials, crews were hampered by materials inside the home. While the fire was quickly under control, some hotspots remained.

The body was turned over to the Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification and cause of death determination. "Develop a home fire escape plan and practice fire drills regularly".
