Police have found the body of a nine-year-old near a cricket field in Bhestan with over 80 injuries, including some on her private parts.
The Surat police on Sunday formed several teams to trace the identity of a girl whose body was dumped after she was raped, torured and killed, and to track down the perpetrators of the crime, following widespread protests by people against "police inaction". The cops are checking the list of missing reports to identify the girl.
Forensic Head of the Civil Hospital told NDTV that most injuries seemed to have been caused by a wooden weapon.
"Sample has been taken for Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) tests which will make clear if she suffered sexual assault and if she was strangled to death, ' added authorities".
According to Padesara police inspector KB Jhala the girl's picture had been circulated on social media platforms to avail her identity. The police also believe that she was murdered somewhere else and the dead body has been thrown there.
Police have registered a case under sections 302 (Punishment for murder), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), and 376 (Punishment for rape), and under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against unidentified persons. The police has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for anyone who provided clue about the girl.
April 16 (ANI): The Surat police has registered a case against two people for "spreading false news" by sharing a photo of the dead body of a girl from Gujarat, claiming that an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) linked person raped her.
"As a country, as a society we all are ashamed of it (rapes)", Modi said in his address while inaugurating the Ambedkar memorial in Delhi.
"I want to assure the country that no culprit will be spared, complete justice will be done". Her attackers, which included temple official and policemen, drugged and gang raped her over days before finally killing her and dumping her body in a forest nearby, seven days later. He died on Monday, while in police custody.
