"Last year, [US] President [Donald] Trump made it clear that using chemical weapons crossed a red line".

Syrian air defense forces targeted an Israeli F-16 fighter jet that was involved in the attack with over 25 anti-aircraft missiles.

"USA president, United Kingdom prime minister and the president of France are criminals", Khamenei said in a speech cited by Iranian TV.

Calling it a "proportional" attack, McKenzie said Saturday the strikes destroyed "fundamental components" of Syria's chemical weapons infrastructure and "dealt them a severe blow".

He says the overnight operation carried out by the United States, France and Britain followed that example.

US President Donald Trump announced early on Saturday the military action from the White House late on Friday.

There were also reports by political activists that the Syrian Army's 4th Armored Division, an elite formation commanded by President Bashar al-Assad's brother, Maher al-Assad, as well as the Republican Guard, were also hit in the strikes.

When asked about the possibility that airstrikes may have caused leakage of chemical agents, McKenzie said "we were able to minimize that", but said there were "probably some chemical agents" present. I firmly declare that the presidents of the United States and France and the British prime minister committed a major crime.

Israel said on Friday that an Iranian drone shot down in February by its air force had been armed with explosives meant to carry out the first direct attack on Israeli territory by the Tehran regime. But it remains unclear if they were struck by French and British manned aircraft and cruise missiles rather than by the USA military.

Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed Syria's air defense systems intercepted 71 missiles launched in the airstrikes.

Trump condemned Russian Federation and Iran for their ties to the regime, saying they are "most responsible for supporting, equipping and financing the criminal Assad regime".

Netanyahu said Syrian president Bashar al-Assad must understand that "his provision of a forward base for Iran and its proxies endangers Syria".

The attacks were described by the Pentagon as precise and aimed exclusively at the regime's chemical weapons facilities. He's also going to hold the Russians and the Iranians who are propping up this regime responsible.

"Syria continues to carry out murderous actions and to be a base for these and other actions, including by Iran, that puts its territory, forces and leadership in danger", the terse statement said.

They have said a roughly 20-year prison term for Atilla would be appropriate.

"Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible".
