National Film Awards to be declared today

The 65th National Film Awards were announced here on Friday.

Rima Das' globally feted "Village Rockstars" won best feature, and awards for editing and location sound. In Tollywood, "The Ghazi Attack" directed by Sankalp Reddy won the Best Telugu Film Award, while "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion" won three National Awards for Best Action Direction, Best Special Effects, Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. This is the actor's first National Award.

The Feature Film Central panel was headed by Shekhar Kapur, an eminent filmmaker known for his works in Hindi cinema and global cinema. Apart from being considered the ultimate recognition for films, the awards also hold the distinction of recognising merit across the country and especially in regional cinema. I am overwhelmed. After a 100 odd films, this is my first National Award and I am going to treasure this moment. Hindi film "Newton", a dark comedy on Indian democracy, was named the best Hindi film and a special mention went to its actor Pankaj Tripathi for his portrayal of a cynical CRPF officer Atma Singh.


"The actor in me feels alive again and grateful that there is appreciation pouring in". Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman won two Awards for Best Music Direction for "Kaatru Veliyidai" and Best Background Score for "Mom".

The team of "Newton", which bagged the award for the best Hindi film, said they are overjoyed with the honour.

I hope this award and the film's commercial success creates a bigger space for relevant political cinema. It was also recognised as the best film in Jasari langauge. Akshay is very happy for me", Ganesh Acharya, who won the best choreographer award for "Toilet: "Ek Prem Katha", told PTI.

Fahadh Faasil has bagged the title of the Best supporting actor for his performance as Kallan Prasad in the film Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. He also won the award for the Best Adapted Screenplay.
