Redmi 1S, Mi 3 are some of the oldest smartphones available in the country. The upcoming Redmi 5 is being promoted by Xiaomi on social media as a "Compact Powerhouse", with features such as big display, long battery life, fast processor, slim design, and good selfie camera in focus. Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus were launched in China past year and Redmi 5 Plus has been introduced in India as the Redmi Note 5. The launch of Xiaomi Redmi 5 was confirmed by the brand on March 13 and just like their previous smartphone launches, Xiaomi will be live streaming the unveiling of their much-awaited smartphone on their official website. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively. The Redmi Note 5 lineup will be up for grabs on mi.com and Flipkart today at 12:00 PM. The company has launched two variants of the device in China, we can expect the same in India. In India, Redmi 5 is expected to slot in between the entry-level Redmi 5A and the Redmi Note 5. Apart from this, the live stream is also likely to be available on the official Xiaomi India YouTube channel and Facebook page. The smartphone comes with a microSD card facilitating expandable storage. The other goodies on board the Redmi 5 are Android 7.1 Nougat topped with MIUI 9, 4G VoLTE, dual SIM support and a 3300mAh battery.
In terms of hardware specifications, Redmi 5 is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC based on a 14nm FinFET technology and coupled with Adreno 506 GPU.
The Redmi Note 5 is equipped with a 5.99-inch full HD+ display.
For optics, the Redmi Note 5 features a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The device, as mentioned above, was launched in two variants - 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. On the front is a 5-megapixel selfie snapper with Beatuify 3.0 and LED selfie-light. It will also come equipped with a 12MP rear camera along with a 5MP front-facing camera.
