Meanwhile, do hit up Windows Update if you are on the Insider Preview program and let us know if you do find any performance gains when enabling Ultimate Performance.
With the Windows App Preview Program, Microsoft will make it easier for Windows fans to try out the latest app updates with Insider Preview builds. Non-Skip Ahead users will get builds from the RS4_RELEASE branch. The company is rolling out these app previews over the next few days.
Insiders will be able to opt into previews for Feedback Hub, Microsoft Photos, Microsoft Sticky Notes, Microsoft Tips, Paint 3D, Windows Alarms & Clock, Windows Calculator, Windows Camera, Windows Mixed Reality Viewer and Windows Voice Recorder. "If the limit has been met for that app preview for the app you will get a notification on clicking the button and as more slots open up you can join the preview", writes Dona Sarkar.
"Microsoft, though, appears to be limiting the number of Insiders who can preview apps but is also allowing Insiders to leave the preview at any time".
To opt-in to an app to preview program, launch one of the apps included in the program and go to the Settings or About page.
The Redstone 4 update, build 17101, is being released to Windows Insiders in the Fast release ring and the Redstone 5 update, build 17604, to those in the Skip Ahead ring. The latest Windows Insider Preview builds for testers also include some emoji design updates to align with the standard emoji characters.
Microsoft also is adding two new features to Windows 10 Pro for Workstations as of today's test builds: A new power scheme called Ultimate Performance; and the replacement of consumer apps and games with productivity and enterprise focused applications when setting up the Workstations edition out of the box. An OEM can select the Ultimate Performance Power plan by default on new PCs and users can change it according to their needs anytime.
The most interesting move is actually the introduction of some new features for Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, including a fresh power scheme.
