House Oversight Committee launches probe into Rob Porter's employment

Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff to George W. Bush, said on Wednesday that former White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter cost the Trump administration "some credibility".

"Everybody knows" his position, Trump said, but "now you hear it". He declined to answer follow-up questions.

The first wife of former White House staff secretary Rob Porter is pushing back on comments by presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway that seemed to suggest smart women can't be victims of domestic violence.

Wray testified that the FBI had wrapped up its background investigation into Porter last July, but Porter wasn't forced out of the White House until a Daily Mail story was published, and a photo of Porter's first wife with a black eye was published.

The Director of the federal agency on Tuesday said that the FBI had already made a conclusion over a year ago that his acts in the past disqualified him to be granted a multi-year security clearance to the president and high ranking staff at the White House.

According to a Politico report, "Interim security clearances are typically granted on a temporary basis by the White House while the FBI conducts a broad investigation as a part of the regular clearance process".

The White House was still working on Mr Porter's security clearance at that point, according to White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders. In this White House, the possibilities are many. He did a very good job while he was in the White House.

When asked if John Kelly, the president's chief of staff, should be fired over the handling of Porter, Nadler replied, "Yes".

The situation is a big problem for Kelly, said one Trump adviser who works outside of the White House. The White House and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have conflicting statements about whether Porter's check was complete. But spokespeople for the White House have insisted that no senior White House officials knew of the spousal abuse allegations against Porter until last week.

Kelly is "a big fat liar", one anonymous staffer told The Washington Post. On Tuesday, after Wray's testimony, she said the FBI's report had gone to the White House "personnel security office", which she said was staffed by civil servants rather than political appointees.

When it comes to grading the President Trump's performance, Card praised what the President has done on the economy, tax reform and reducing regulations. "And everybody here knows that", Trump told reporters. For the first time since the allegations were made public, President Donald Trump has chose to convey his stance on domestic violence.

Kelly has yet to give in his letter of resignation but said he would do so if Trump said so.
