The 2017 celebration took inspiration from Chinese tale Journey to the West, while this year's event uses Chinese mythological creatures behind the Four Symbols as its starting point for a bunch of the new skins.

The Year of the Dog event is scheduled to begin on February 8 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

This is one of the many changes with today's Year of the Dog update that brings with it a new map, Ayutthaya, new skins, a new game mode, and tons more!

Capture the Flag, called Capture the Rooster previous year, is returning to Overwatch with a series of updates created to balance the game mode. If the game will supposedly end in a draw as time runs out, Sudden Death will kick in with the flags of both teams placed closer to the map's center. There's two game modes available as well, capture the flag and capture the flag competitive.

The Year of the Dog event follows the Overwatch cosmetic update released last month and is a revamped version of the Year of the Rooster event last year, which introduced the Capture the Flag mode. Kaplan revealed that this was the first ever map that was specifically constructed for Capture the Flag, which is why the update will also bring some changes to the game. LOOT! Unlock over 50 new seasonal items-including legendary skins like Black Lily Widowmaker, Qinglong (Azure Dragon) Pharah, Xuanwu (Black Tortoise) Zarya, and Baihu (White Tiger) Genji-alongside gear from last Lunar New Year, available at reduced credit costs. Moreover, Kaplan said that they add a new highlight intro for one of the heroes. Two new emotes are available for Roadhog and Doomfist.
