Since the original team behind Scribblenauts, 5th Cell, found themselves in financial trouble, developments duties for Showdown have been passed over to Shiver Games, who developed the weird, demonic adventure game Lucius. Now it's been made official by publisher Warner Bros. In Scribblenauts, you solve puzzles and progress by typing in items that you want to use.
With a new developer and angle, Scribblenauts Showdown might not look much like its predecessors, but it's nice to see the franchise get another shot on the new generation of consoles.
Versus mode is for two players, though it can also be played solo.
WB Games has announced a brand-new Scribblenauts title coming to Xbox One this March.
Scribblenauts Showdown will launch on March 6th, 2018, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It might not be quite the direct sequel that fans had been hoping for, but there seems to be plenty of stuff to keep old and new fans of the series entertained.
"This is a party/puzzle-platformer game in which players engage in a variety of tasks and mini-games using a selection of words/actions/modifiers/characters", ESRB explain in the rating.
The ESRB listing describes Scribblenauts Showdown as follows. In the titular Showdown mode, up to four players will battle for supremacy in "Wordy" minigames (unleash the best object from the Scribblenauts library to outsmart the others) and "Speedy" minigames (complete a challenge before anyone else).
There will be a collection of over 25 mini games to play with friends in Showdown mode, which features different groups of games to play, organized by type. We'll be getting both a Showdown and Versus mode for some multiplayer Scribblenauts action. There will also be a Versus Mode, which will allow two players to go head-to-head, or for one player to take on a CPU, as well as Sandbox Mode, which will resemble a more traditional Scribblenauts game.
