Jamie Carragher - Selling Philippe Coutinho is a huge risk for Liverpool

Kevin Murphy claims to be the biggest Liverpool fan in Cork, and since the Reds' sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona this month he's offered a song of support for the Merseyside club.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday in his pre-match press conference for their mouth-watering clash against Manchester City on Sunday that the club tried to keep the playmaker at Anfield.

According to TuttoSport, Juventus feel that their player is worth more than Barca's new recruit, and are set to use the price of the deal as a "reference point" for any move concerning Dybala.

Roberto is known for his flexibility and is fit for playing in the two positions which is something that Klopp is searching for. That's how I always did it. It became 100% clear, no chance. This year Pep Guardiola has deployed Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in deeper roles than we are used to seeing them, which in turn has allowed City to still field three pacy forward players ahead of them. So you need to really show up in a game like this otherwise if you try to react a little bit to what they do and stuff like this, you will lose.

"He did fantastic in the first part of the season after things we had to deal with in the summer transfer window". You miss a person and I'm sure he's missing us - maybe he doesn't realise in the moment when everything is new there!

"If we do something it needs to be the right decision", he said of potential signings.

'I'd be surprised if they replaced him [Coutinho] in this window, ' Shearer told bookmaker Coral.

Attention has already turned to Coutinho's replacement, with Liverpool linked to both Atletico Madrid talisman Antoine Griezmann and Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez.

"Where the Coutinho departure differs is Liverpool have a more balanced squad now than in 2009, 2011 and 2014", added Carragher.

Coutinho wanted to move to the club where many South American legends have played their football and he even tried to force through a move during the summer when he handed in a transfer request to Liverpool.

Whether a midfield of Coutinho, Lallana and either Jordan Henderson or Emre Can would have worked is something we'll sadly never know.

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League and host leaders Manchester City at 16:00 GMT on Sunday. "We will see. Until 31 January a lot of things can happen in the transfer window", the Liverpool said boss when asked about Sturridge.

"My phone has been hopping with messages about it, even from people I don't know", Kevin said.
