Ballance did not feature in the series, Ball featured only in the first Test and Curran was a late addition to the squad before turning out in Melbourne and Sydney.

England squad for New Zealand tour: Joe Root (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Alastair Cook, Mason Crane, Ben Foakes, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Craig Overton, Ben Stokes, Mark Stoneman, James Vince, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

White has not represented Australia in 50-over cricket since 2015, and gave an interview in December saying he thought his worldwide career was over.

County cricket often becomes a scapegoat after the sort of England defeats that have just seen them thumped 4-0 in the Ashes whilst receiving little praise when things go well.

Livingstone's call-up is his first time he has been involved with the Test squad although he did play two T20Is for England against South Africa last summer.

The MCG Test was the last Test to be rated under the current ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process, with a revised process coming into effect in men's and women's worldwide cricket from January 4, following the conclusion of the New Zealand versus Windies T20I series, which ends in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday.

"He is a very talented and tough cricketer who has the ideal qualities and character to be successful in the Test arena".

Livingstone impressed for Lancashire last season, scoring 803 runs at an average of 47.24, and was one of the best performers on the recent Lions tour to Australia. We are particularly impressed with the way he bats against spin and is equally adept against the seamers.

Also returning to the squad is Durham fast bowler Mark Wood, who last played for England in the longer format in July past year and his progress was stalled by injuries.

From the Ashes touring squad, batsman Gary Ballance and bowlers Jake Ball and Tom Curran have been dropped. Should the England and Wales Cricket Board receive confirmation Stokes has either been charged or that he will face no charges, they would convene within 48 hours to make a decision on his availability at that stage. "I wanted to work on different areas of my red-ball game, and I was able to do that for our first two weeks in Brisbane".
