'John Wick' Is Back (As A Television Show On Starz)

The third John Wick movie, which stars Keanu, is due out in theaters in 2019.

We've been hearing about a potential John Wick spin-off series ever since I interviewed Chapter 2 director Chad Stahelski this time previous year.

The series will be executive produced and overseen by showrunner Chris Collins (who was an executive producer on Sons of Anarchy and a writer on The Wire).

Though The Continental's home on television might make you assume that the show won't be almost as action-packed as the film series it's tied to, Starz is confident that the show will be able to deliver on epic fight scenes.

Starz announced to the Television Critics Association they are developing a TV series based on John Wick.

The show would take place within the "John Wick" universe and revolve around the mysterious Continental Hotel, a refuge for hired assassins. This will include John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves, Thunder Road Pictures' Basil Iwanyk (the John Wick film franchise, The Town, Sicario), Chad Stahelski (John Wick co-director and John Wick: Chapter 2 director), screenwriter Derek Kolstad, and David Leitch (John Wick co-director, Deadpool 2). It's that world Starz wants to expand in an ongoing television series.

For the sake of Keanu and co., let's just forget all the bad examples of big movies taking on the small screen, and instead focus our attention on the likes of Fargo and Avengers Assemble.

The films have already earned $300 million worldwide and spawned a successful VR mobile game.

"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV", said Starz President & CEO Chris Albrech, promising the same "thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts", while exploring "new darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world".

The Continental doesn't have a series order yet, meaning that Starz could still pass on the production.
