The announcement came within a week of another announcement by Walmart that it's raising its starting wage to $11 per hour. That location is adjacent to a Walmart Supercenter store.

Sam's Club is a retailer that offers wholesale sizes and prices to individual buyers who purchase a membership to the store. "This is a decision we made based on what we need to do to maintain a healthy business going forward".

The company operates two Sam's Clubs in Wyoming - one in Casper and another in Cheyenne.

Ten of the affected stores will be turned into e-commerce distribution centers, and employees of those stores will have the opportunity to reapply for positions at those locations, a Walmart official said.

Next week, the discount is expected to increase to 50 percent, but the store could not confirm what day that would happen.

According to the Journal, the job cuts, which are expected to focus on workers in various roles at the company's Arkansas headquarters, are expected to be completed by the end of the company's fiscal year on January 31. Some demanded refunds for their Sam's Club memberships, which cost between $45 and $100.

"Transforming our business means managing our real estate portfolio and Walmart needs a strong fleet of Sam's Clubs that are fit for the future", Sam's Club CEO John Furner said in a statement.

United Kingdom workspace interiors manufacturer and distributor Dynamic Office Solutions expects to end the year on a high note after a significant investment in its warehouse facilities and e-commerce.

"There were a few locations where we felt there was no easy way to keep them open", he said, adding that some of the stores will remain open for a few weeks.

"Right now that's what the customer wants", she said.

"Having a store like Sam's Club is absolutely a necessity for some of us rural, smaller communities", she said.
