At least several Oregonians are freaking out about the new law. Nowadays when I drive to Oregon I take my diesel auto, because OR does allow you to pump your own diesel, since diesel is not easily combustible like gasoline. "I've lived in this state all my life and I refuse to pump my own gas".
Now, counties in places with a population of less than 40,000 people are allowed to have self-service gas stations.
So when some drivers in rural OR were reminded this week they now have the option to start pumping their own gas for the first time ever, we in The Mitten could completely understand the streams of anger, confusion and vitriol unleashed on social media.
Numbers Vs. Internet Jokes About Oregon's Pumping Ban
Case in point: KTVL CBS 10 News in Medford, Ore., posted this Facebook poll on December 29, asking followers if OR should allow self-serve gas stations statewide.
Second, the concept of forcing someone to have a gas station attendant pump your gas for you creates more jobs. I say NO THANKS! "I don't want to smell like gasoline".
At the same time, other reasons for station attendants cited in the statute are more far-fetched. Since then, gas stations and pumps have become safer and most states have abandoned these laws. We're not talking about a skill set equal to prepping the space shuttle for launch here, guy. You are permitted to get out of your auto, pop open your petrol hole and shove the nozzle into it, squeezing precious auto juice into your vehicle. I laughed said I am from Idaho, I'm fully capable, you can leave... I think I can easily guess the topic.
The conversation never really should have made it that far to begin with, honestly. Though the majority of people either like or are indifferent to the change, there are some who believe being allowed to pump your own petrol is absolutely a harbinger of a world gone mad.
In the meantime, while the rest of us point and laugh, maybe don't proclaim you're a better state than the rest of us for a while. "It was throwback to older times when we actually had SERVICE stations instead of gas stations".
A new law will permit self-serving gas stations in rural areas of the state of Oregon.
One disgruntled Oregonian, Cathy Dahl, said angrily: "No!" HB 2482 does not require all gas stations in the state to have self-service pumps at all hours of the day. We don't care what you do in Texas and everywhere else. Seriously, folks... what the heck is wrong with Oregon?
