Ed Sheeran has snagged a triple crown of streaming for 2017, ranking as Spotify's most-streamed artist as well as tallying the most-streamed single ("Shape of You") and the top-streamed album ("Divide").
The British singer beat Drake, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, and The Chainsmokers to become the most streamed artist for the current year, said a statement posted on Spotify's official website.
Apple released its annual list of the most popular music in Australia for 2017 on Thursday and revealed that Sheeran's multi-platinum third record / (Divide) which he released in March, is its most listened-to album.
Latin music also saw major gains, with streams more than doubling on the back of viral Spanish-language hits - most notably the worldwide sensation "Despacito".
Sheeran, 26, has seized on the rapid growth of streaming during his rise to pop fame.
But you might be interested to find out that, according to Spotify's year-end data for 2017, "Shape of You" finished very strong as the year's most-streamed song. Rihanna, perhaps most unsurprisingly, was 2017's most-streamed female artist for the third year in a row, ahead of Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Sia.
