Versus Mode will be playable locally between two players (by either using two controllers or one pair of Joy-Con controllers), but will contain some surprises that are different than the main game. They successfully launched the hottest console of the year, have multiple first party titles in contention for game of the year and are selling high-margin plastic figurines faster than the factory can make them. Notably, Versus mode will only provide three actions for players per turn. Initially, this can feel restrictive, as it affords you fewer options than in the base game. Additional settings allow for the customisation of turns, timers or items. These item boxes add another layer of strategy, as you have to decide when to attempt to retrieve them, when to use them, and which character to use them with. You will form your battle plans by each choosing three characters, with specific stats and skill sets to forge your tactical victory, as you play across 'unique and evolving battlefields'.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, one of the most surprisingly wonderful games of 2017, is getting a free Versus mode this Friday, December 8.
It's a much-needed addition to the excellent single-player antics of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, so if you've got some time tomorrow and want to spend some time on your Switch, you could do a lot worse than grabbing this free update. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will take advantage of the ability of Nintendo Switch to be played anywhere, anytime and is fully functioning on the go for both solo and co-op players.
