Police responding to school shooting in New Mexico

A high school in New Mexico is on lockdown and being evacuated following a shooting, authorities said.

KRQE reported the suspect was in custody. Bloomfield Police Department shared the following message on Facebook a short while ago. All students faculty and staff are accounted for.


Bloomfield and Farmington high schools in the area are also on lockdown as a precaution, according to the station. "Parents are advised to please stay away from all of the schools until further notice".

Local media reports a shooter is down, and at least two other people have been shot.


Aztec is a community of 6,700 residents, located in rural northwestern New Mexico, about 180 miles from Albuquerque.

The sheriff's office urged people to avoid the area and confirmed the school was evacauted.
