KANO-Moved by the outpouring of affection from the people of Kano State at the beginning of a two-day official visit, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, vowed to overwhelm any opposition to his undeclared 2019 re-election prospects.

He was received at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, members of the State Executive Council, Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, traditional rulers as well as politicians, among others.

Buhari also recalled how he spent years in court challenging election results. "The people of Kano are aware of the tremendous jobs we did on security and agriculture", Buhari said.

Buhari said he would remain focused in order to restore the lost glory of the country.

Following the courtesy call, President Buhari visited the Central Prison, Kurmawa, where he pardoned 500 inmates and made provisions for transport fares to take them back to their places of abode.

The president was accompanied to the Kano prison by the Minister of Interior, General Abdurrahman Danbazau, among others.

He also commended Governor Ganduje for the completion and upgrade of the hospital.

Speaking shortly before he commissioned the hospital, Buhari noted that Governor Ganduje is executing the agenda of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state through execution of projects that had a direct impact in the lives of the electorate.

"It has been so consistent and I don't think I have the vocabulary to express my thanks to the people of Kano".
