With PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds set to drop next week, Microsoft is beginning to ramp up promotions for the multiplayer hit - and in Australia, it's really going something cool going on.

Xbox Australia announced via a press release that it will be dropping real life supply crates across the country. Please do not actually conduct yourself as you would in the game when approaching one of these IRL crates. Instead they will contain Xbox and PUBG freebies, from codes to get your own copy of the game, PUBG merch and Xbox One Elite controllers, all the way up to actual, honest-to-god Xbox One X consoles. After all, it's the holiday season and there's something for everyone. We look forward to meeting all the new Xbox PUBG players - see you on the island! And it kicks off on December 9, so you've got a few days to prepare and try to figure out potential locations where the crates could be available within the city. "The password will also be revealed via the Xbox ANZ Facebook page on Saturday, 9 December which participants will need to say to the staff members on hand when they arrive at the crate's location in order to obtain the loot from the crate". But, still, it'd be cool if the company considered it.

The Playerunknown's Battlegrounds development team has today formally taken the lid off the name and further details of its upcoming new desert map, ahead of its first gameplay footage to be shown at The Game Awards later this week.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is now in early access on PC, but it will have its full release later this month.
