While "Dark Phoenix" is still nearly a year away, here's a first look at Sophie Turner's character that will get you excited for the newest "X-Men" installation. Simon Kinberg is directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside new additions Jessica Chastain and Lamar Johnson.

Based partially on Chris Claremont's Dark Phoenix saga, it's a storyline Kinberg previously attempted to tell in his screenplay for 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, but the studio reduced it into a subplot.

In the EW article, we learn that Dark Phoenix sees Mystique and the X-Men in the role of national heroes after the Apocalypse incident.

Sophie Turner has never looked hotter. After they're dispatched to space for a rescue mission, a solar flare hits the X-Jet and the surge of energy ignites a malevolent, power-hungry new force within Jean (Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner)- the Phoenix.

But perhaps the most interesting photo is the one that depicts Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and several of his X-Men at a rainy funeral. But his growing ego puts the team at risk.

"[Mystique] has grown up a lot", states Jennifer Lawrence. In the next movie, out November 2, 2018, the X-Men team is dispatched to space for a rescue mission. "There's a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering". The film will delve into the destruction that Dark Phoenix wreaks upon both Earth and Jean Grey's relationship with her fellow X-Men and beloved mentor Charles Xavier.

Turner said "It's about the butterfly effect of this thing happening". "What happens when the person you love the most falls into darkness?"

We also know a little more about the mysterious character Jessica Chastain will play: it's an "otherworldly shapeshifter who comes into contact with Phoenix".
