Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Shkodran Mustafi an injury doubt for Saints clash'

Wenger then hit back at Jose Mourinho's constant jibing and accusations of lies told regarding striker Alexandre Lacazette, who played 90 minutes against United despite having earlier been ruled out of the game with a groin injury that forced him off at half-time of the 5-0 drubbing of Huddersfield Town. "Some experienced players need competition so we will play quite an experienced team". It won't be the youngsters, no matter how promising they are or how much potential they have.

A victory may not even be enough for the Belarusian team as they also require Red Star Belgrade and Cologne to draw in the other Group H fixture in order to jump ahead of the pair into second place.

But it seems unlikely he will be risked in the Europa League.

David de Gea, in particular, was scintillating in the opposition end, and Wenger will want a strong response from whichever team he sets up to face BATE in the final Europa League group game. There was obviously disappointment when Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League, but that was tempered somewhat by the novelty of a competition that wasn't just more of the same. The benefit of not playing his first team in midweek European games should have been seen when it came to domestic games. Compare that to a year ago when despite far less rotation they had, at this stage, only lost once in the league, and that was on the opening day. As far as the midfield is concerned, Mohamed Elneny and Jack Wilshere will likely start in the center of the park.

Arsenal will be in action in the UEFA Europa League this week in a game which they will hope to win with some ease. There certainly hasn't been anyone whose performances suggest they should be starting. I can only play with 11 players and the players have to deal with that and so do I.
