Airtel and Intex introduce affordable 4G smartphones starting at Rs. 1649

To get the Aqua Lions N1 at Rs 1,649 - customers will first need to make a down payment of Rs 3,149 while buying the smartphone, however, later Rs 1500 will be refunded back to them. Airtel has plans to associate with more manufactures to create an open ecosystem of affordable 4G smartphones.

The smartphone comes bundled with a monthly pack of Rs 169 from Airtel. "With today's launch, Airtel now offers seven 4G smartphone models under its "Mera Pehla Smartphone" initiative". The newly launched Intex Lions N1 comes at an effective price of Rs 1,649, while the Intex Aqua A4 and Aqua S3 are now available at an effective price of Rs 1,999 and Rs 4,379 respectively.

The Intex Aqua Lions N1 from Airtel is available at a down payment of Rs 3,149, while the Aqua A4 and Aqua S3 will be available for an upfront payment of Rs 3,499 and Rs 5,874 respectively.


Companies in the telecom sector have become more aggressive in the bundled offerings segment after Reliance Jio in July announced an "effectively free" 4G phone for a refundable security deposit of Rs1,500 and unlimited data for Rs153 a month. Earlier, the operator had partnered with Karbonn Mobiles and Celkon to launch affordable 4G smartphones.

The customer is required to make 36 continuous monthly recharges of Rs 169 from Airtel. In terms of camera, it has a 2MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera. A recharge of no less than Rs 3,000 is also mandatory for another 18 months to receive the remaining Rs 1,000 bringing total cashback to Rs 1,500.

The device is a dual-SIM touch-screen phone, and comes with rear and front camera, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB.


In case the customer does not wish to opt for the Rs 169 plan, they can recharge as per their requirements. It's worth noting that in order to get the full Rs 1,500 refund, the users will have to make a minimum recharge of Rs 6,000. The smartphone has a 4-inch WVGA display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1750mAh battery, Android Nougat OS, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB.

The Intex Aqua Lions N1 is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Micro-SIM and Micro-SIM. All the three smartphones run Android 7.0 Nougat and comes preloaded with apps such as MyAirtel App, Airtel TV, Wynk Music.

"Their (Intex's) brand familiarity plus distribution reach will add to our affordable smartphone proposition,"Ajai Puri, chief operating officer (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel, said". Airtel is selling the phone at an effective price of Rs 1,999.


The partnership is another milestone in Airtel's "Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone" initiative.
