A POP star has been arrested over a raunchy video showing her singing in her underwear while eating a banana "suggestively".
Meanwhile, Shyma has apologised to all who were offended by the video.
The music video has also sparked strong reactions on social media. In the footage she appears before a classroom of grown men dancing provocatively.
The blackboard behind her has "Class #69" written on it, and she proceeds to suggestively eat an apple and a banana and pour milk over the fruit.
The officials said Shyma was arrested last week following a flurry of complaints.
"Singer Shyma presents a lesson in depravity to youths", Egyptian newspaper Youm7 observed. Initially, she was arrested for four days, but on Monday, the public prosecutor's office extended her custody for seven days, Youm al-Sabaa reported. Arrest warrants have also been issued to directors of the video.
After her detention, the video, which gained 150,000 on YouTube within 24 hours after its release, is no longer available on the streaming site, and all versions are blocked by the publisher. Another singer is now also facing trial for spreading provocative publicity after she suggested drinking straight from the river Nile could make people ill.
A lawsuit was filed after video emerged showing Sherine Abdel Wahab being asked at a concert previous year to sing Mashrebtesh Men Nilha (Have You Drunk From The Nile?). Last year, Egyptian courts sentenced three female singers to six months in prison each, convicting them of inciting debauchery. She responded by saying "drinking from the Nile will get me schistosomiasis" - a disease commonly known as bilharzia.
