A shocked Vidya said, "Main jo kaam kar rahi hoon, usse bohot khush hoon".
Vidya Balan's new film is about to release this Friday, November 17th, and the actor has been actively promoting it. "Or have you thought about losing weight?" "There's no connection between women-centric roles and weight loss".
Vidya Balan: "What's the relationship between "women-centric" and weightloss?" (All your films have been wome-centic so far, have yuu thought about losing weight in future?), the reporter asked. When the reporter tried telling her that she needed to lose weight for "glamorous roles", she retorted, " I'm very happy with the work I'm doing.
But let's start with the most glaring one - the otherising of films centered around women need to stop now.
One of the most versatile and successful actresses of Bollywood Vidya Balan, was recently fat-shamed in a press meet and it's really saddening. She was once called the Fourth Khan - due to her sheer popularity with films such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Kahaani and The Dirty Picture.
Now, as we know this is not the first time Vidya will play an RJ on screen, earlier in 2006 she played an RJ in "Lage Raho Munna Bhai" but that was different and this is different.
Secondly, in which universe is "women-centric" and "glamorous" mutually exclusive? The movie also stars Neha Dhupia and Manav Kaul.
Thirdly, consent and choice make all the difference here (even if you argue said reporter is merely naive and unaware, and not sexist). Without going under a knife, Vidya has worked on her own terms. Do share your views in the comments section below!
