Mahindra Scorpio launched in India; prices start at Rs 9.97 lakh

The Mahindra Scorpio facelift launched in Indian markets today with price starting from Rs 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new All Powerful Scorpio comes with higher power and torque, new 6-speed transmission, enhanced performance, imposing styling and luxurious comfort. The new All Powerful Scorpio will be available in 6 variants, namely, S3, S5, S7 (120 bhp), S7 (140 bhp), S11 (140 bhp) & S11 (140 bhp with 4WD).


Also the old mHawk engine running the higher variants of the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift has been tweaked to deliver 140 bhp max power, instead of 120 bhp, and 320 Nm, in a first for one of the most popular SUV line-ups in India.

Speaking on the launch, Rajan Wadhera, President - Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, "The Scorpio has pushed the boundaries for Mahindra and created new benchmarks for others ever since its launch in 2002". Peak power and torque are also produced at lower revs now, the 140PS is produced at 3750rpm as opposed 120PS at 4000rpm, while 320Nm is on offer from just 1500rpm as opposed to 280Nm from 1800rpm. Four-wheel drive is only available as an option on the S11 variant. The S3 is the base variant and will use Mahindra 2.5-litre, four-cylinder m2DICR engine producing 75PS and 200Nm.


The S3 trim of the Scorpio comes with 2.5-litre diesel engine that generates 75bhp when connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Mahindra has not introduced the automatic option yet in the new Scorpio but it is being speculated that the company may introduce the AMT variant of the new Scorpio later. At the rear, the updated Scorpio gets a new bumper, a new red theme for the LED tail-lamps, a new wiper, and a redesigned tailgate. The new Scorpio gets faux leather wrapped steering and gear lever and faux leather seats. In terms of features, it comes equipped with body coloured bumper and side cladding, follow-me home headlights, fabric upholstery, dual front airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), speed sensing door locks, power outlets in the front and second rows and 17 inch steel wheels with wheel caps. The Scorpio also gets panic brake indication, side intrusion beams and features like engine immobilizer to enhance the safety features in the mid-sized SUV.
