The midfielder could really reinvigorate an Atletico Madrid side that often fails to create enough chances, but Simeone will face some stiff competition from Manchester United in the race to secure Ozil's signature.

Atletico Madrid could be the club to rescue the Germany worldwide from Arsenal's clutches, according to the Express, but only if their own talented midfielder Saul Niguez makes the switch to Manchester United.

Now sidelined until the New Year with a thigh injury, the 28-year-old was linked to Old Trafford in the summer and the Spanish media believe a move could materialise with United eager to snap up a player whose transfer fee has plummeted from £133m to £80m because of his injury problems over the years.

Griezmann is understood to favour a move to Barcelona over United as it will enable him to stay in Spain, where he has played since the age of 14.

"We have put in a lot of effort to keep him and to keep all the players".

Jose Mourinho has dictated the officials to trigger the 12-month extension clause in Ander Herrera's contract, chiefly for snubbing any interests from other clubs, particularly Atletico Madrid.

"Griezmann is and will be an Atletico player. He is an important player, he is at an important club and wants to win things with Atletico".

Griezmann recently threw a spanner in the works when he admitted on French programme Telefoot that he wants to link up with Paris Saint-Germain stars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, per Goal: "Am I dreaming of a front line with Mbappe, Neymar and Griezmann?"

It has been claimed that Mourinho is a big admirer of the 22-year-old, who would reportedly be open to a move to the Red Devils.
