About 100 students attend the school, which is the scene of one of the shootings that took place, according to an official. The shooter himself has been killed by police and several victims are now being treated at a local hospital. He said investigators were still trying to confirm the identity of the killer, who he said was armed with a semiautomatic rifle and two handguns.

Authorities said multiple shots were fired at Rancho Tehama Elementary School around 8 a.m. and there were multiple victims.

Tiffany's husband, Brian Rodgers, said another witness reported seeing a white pickup drive through the school gate and start shooting.

An exact number of injured victims isn't known at this time, but police in California have confirmed that a number of students have been transported to hospital.

Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, says no one was killed at the school but a "number" of students were shot and wounded.

The school has been cleared and children were moved to a safe location.

The shooter was killed by law enforcement. He then stole a second vehicle and was shooting once again when two law enforcement officers killed him.

The nearby Rancho Tehama Airport was placed on lockdown. "This guy has been insane, and he's been threatening us and everything".

Flint described living next to the gunman as "hell".

The shooting is "just devastating" for the small, tight-knit community, she says. A woman driving the truck was also shot; all three are being treated.

Gov. Jerry brown issued a statement on the shooting, saying: "Anne and I are saddened to hear about today's violence in Tehama County, which shockingly involved schoolchildren".
