The doctor died at Affinity Medical Center.

According to reports, a gunman - identified as Michael Wood - fatally shot cardiologist Dr. George Seese who worked at the medical center.

According to police, the two men shared a mutual love interest.

Massillon Police Chief Keith Moser says it appears Seese was shot twice Monday afternoon while walking to his vehicle. "I got down to my house as fast as I could and stayed inside".

Seese was the Medical Director of the Noninvasive Cardiovascular Lab at the hospital. He then walked to his auto, which was parked behind Seese's and shot himself, the television station said.

Seese also went by the nickname "Skip". He had 13 children, as well as grandchildren.

Earlier Monday, Moser said Seese was in surgery.

Moser said several people witnessed the shooting.

While authorities were trying to figure out if this was an isolated incident or an active shooter situation, Massillon area schools were placed on lockdown. The lockdown was later lifted.
