Police were called to the property in Barmah on the Victorian-NSW border, which was owned by Mr Thornburgh, where they found a deceased man on a makeshift bed on the front veranda.

A spokeswoman for Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia officers were not able to confirm if the man found on the balcony was the owner of the house, but said the death was suspicious and the Homicide Squad were involved.

It is not known whose body was found.

Last year, his club had shots fired into it and then days after, a luxury home in Port Melbourne was the target of a drive-by shooting.

"It would appear that certainly someone is not happy with something that's going on and is clearly trying to send a message", he told reporters in October a year ago.

The home is owned by nightclub owner Darren Thornburgh (left).

A local resident told 9NEWS Mr Thornburgh came up to the town once a month.

His ex-wife and her daughter were inside the property at the time but were unharmed.

Staff were reportedly questioned by police on Monday afternoon, appearing shaken and upset.

A post-mortem will determine Mr Thornburgh's exact cause of death.
