Watch Sturgill Simpson call Trump "a fascist fucking pig"

Simpson busked in the streets outside the venue, raising funds for the ACLU.

"You've got a better chance of getting in there than I do, I'll tell you that", he said to one person during his busking experience, which he also streamed on Facebook Live. The singer took the opportunity to share his views on the president, who was the subject of some of the humor from CMAs co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. Some of his other answers included his love for Angel Olsen and Run the Jewels music as well as calling POTUS Donald Trump "a fascist f-g pig". The musician propped open his guitar case, and any money dropped into the pile, he claims, is going right to the American Civil Liberties Union.

"Nobody needs a machine gun, coming from a guy who owns quite a few guns".

Last year, Sturgill Simpson rather infamously took umbrage with the way the Association of Country Music chose to go about their Merle Haggard Spirit Award, issuing some scathing critiques of mainstream country in general in the process.

Simpson remarked during his live Facebook feed last night on a number of hot button social issues including gun control, gay marriage and social inequality. Black people are probably exhausted of getting shot in the streets and being enslaved by the prison industrial complex. "So I thought I'd come down here and play some country music, since we're celebrating it this evening in Nashville, Tennessee".

He said that he "didn't get a ticket" and had been asked to move away from the door. "Thank you very much".

He joked that he wasn't allowed into the ceremony - he did not receive any nominations this year. Possibly his best known dust up was when he criticized the Academy of Country Music for naming an award after Merle Haggard and celebrating him after his death, while Simpson says the country icon was shunned by the country music establishment in his later years.
