The X-Men cinematic universe isn't known for its scares (save for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that's another story for another day), but with The New Mutants, director Josh Boone is about to steer Fox's mutant juggernaut into relatively uncharted, and very dark territory. Plus, after so many X-Men movies, doing something different isn't just potentially refreshing, it's becoming necessary.
Of these four movies, New Mutants is the next to hit theaters, with an April 2018 release date.
Judging from this first teaser trailer, it sure looks like they've succeeded. It walked them through a trilogy of New Mutant films that would build on each other. Along with the image, he included the phrase "There's something new to fear", which adds to the assertion that the X-Men spin-off will be more like a horror movie than a standard superhero film. Fans can see for themselves from the above trailer that Boone and Snider were spot on in their comments. The five main characters in New Mutants are Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage (Blu Hunt), Illyana Rasputin aka Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy), Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball (Charlie Heaton), and Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot (Henry Zaga). They'll be joined by Alice Braga (I Am Legend) as their mentor Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
Filming on New Mutants wrapped earlier this fall, so it was only a matter of time until the film's first trailer dropped.
Of course, fans know several heroes who will appear in New Mutants.
