Anti-vax mum's son immunised while she's jailed for defying court order

She immediately appealed that decision and the court found her appeal without merit.

Rebecca Bredow was last week sentenced for contempt of court almost a year after an Oakland County judge ordered her to have her nine-year-old son vaccinated.

In Michigan, parents have the right to opt out of immunisation for children for non-medical reasons, but Bredow had reneged on an agreement made with Mr Horne in November 2016 to have their two children immunised.

Bredow is in the middle of a custody battle over her son with James Horne, the boy's father. While she was in jail, Horne was granted temporary custody of their son, and the boy received four immunizations Monday.

When asked if the experience of going to jail was worth it in the end, especially given the outcome, the mother-of-two said she still stands by her anti-vaxx stance.

Rebecca Bredow was jailed for seven days for refusing to vaccinate her son.

"I am an educated vaccine-choice mother and I have signed vaccine waivers and have been fully compliant with all state laws for both of my children for every school year", Bredow said before the sentencing hearing last week.

Rebecca Bredow was so determined not to complete her son's vaccinations, she was happy to go to jail for her strong beliefs.

"She's devastated", Vitale said of Bredow.

Judge Karen McDonald interrupted her plea in court saying that Bredow wasn't telling the entire truth.

Bredow's ex-husband wanted their son vaccinated, but she is the primary caregiver for their son.

"It's clear to me that you don't care about orders even if you agree to them, which you did".
