-Brett Gardner was 3-for-5 and had 12-pitch at-bats against Cleveland's top relievers, Andrew Miller and Cody Allen. However, he set a postseason record for most strikeout in a series with 16 against the Indians while going 1-for-20. Altuve hit three home runs in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox, ending the series with a 1.765 OPS.

Other key Yankees contributors were in different uniforms a year ago.

This series looks destined to go at least six games, but look for the Yankees to pull another upset and move on to the World Series. Nothing embodied the way these Yankees never yield like that. The Astros added Justin Verlander, a bonafide ace, to a rotation that already included one of the AL's best starters. After the tense five games in the ALDS, I'm not sure NY is going to come out firing here.

Girardi said of his team, "They picked me up".

Who has the edge between these two ball clubs?

SeatGeek spokesman Chris Leyden said several thousand tickets are available across the stadium but that website officials noted what he described as a huge buying surge after the Yankees-Indians game ended. "We have what it takes".

Pitching was the name of the game for the Yankees in the ALDS, as CC Sabathia, Luis Severino and Masahiro Tanaka combined for three excellent starts to propel NY to come back from the two-game deficit. Houston advanced to the ALCS by downing the Red Sox in four games in their ALDS series, clinching it with a 5-4 win Monday in Boston.

Houston's pitcher for Game 1 is left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who has bludgeoned the Yanks a bunch of times, including the 2015 AL wild-card game.

Judge did not receive the quality of help around him like Yulieski Gurriel and George Springer, who each hit over.400, while Carlos Correa is still arguably the best shortstop despite not having his best series. On the road, the Astros defeated the Yankees, 3-0.

In the teams' regular-season meetings, Houston won five of seven, all waged before July 1.

Judge and Sanchez this season combined for 88 home runs, with Judge setting a rookie record with 52 blasts, and 204 RBIs. Little of that probably matters.

The Astros lead the season series 5-2 and the total went under in the first two meetings, but since has gone over the last five times. Being able to use David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle, and Aroldis Chapman across multiple innings kept the Yankees in their ALDS matchup.

The Astros had the AL's best offense in the regular season.
